No prom? No problem.
Rockin' the Ric on what would've been prom night
For many in the class of 2020, this past weekend should have been their senior prom. Instead, the stay-at-home order left dresses and suits hanging in the closet and students across the state skipping the soiree.
A Sandown resident, however, had other ideas. Katie Burke, also known as “my kid,” and a senior at Timberlane Regional High School, thought she’d get gussied up and provide a little music for some of her friends who were also missing out on the prom. She put on her prom dress, got her Rickenbacker 4003, hit ‘record’ on her phone and tuned out for a bit.
The set list:
- “Baggy Trousers” by Madness
- “Rio” by Duran Duran
- “Head over Heels” by Tears for Fears
Why the 80s tunes? Her mom and I are of the 80s, and she said she picked those because Mother’s Day just went by.
As soon it was over, the night returned to a normal Friday during the pandemic: Animal Crossing with friends until well after midnight. But for a few minutes, it was good to see her showing the coronavirus who’s bass boss.
