Family fun on Friday

Virtual prom, Broadway, StoryLand, Disney: We've got your Friday night plans here

We’ve all been quarantined at home for weeks, so you’d think that we’d be bored out of our minds at this point. You’d be wrong.

Clear your social calendar, because you’ve got some choices to make. To wit: A John Krasinski-hosted virtual prom, “That Thing You Do,” Disney on Broadway and trivia aplenty.

6 p.m. – As a warmup for what’s to come, log on to to challenge your family/friends (remotely, of course) to some serious Disney trivia.

It plays just like Jeopardy, only the egghead questions have been replaced with queries about things that really matter, like “What does ‘Hakuna Matata’ mean?” or “What is Rapunzel’s pet’s name?” or “What is the name of the crab who sings ‘Shiny’?”

7 p.m. – Disney will be livestreaming the “Celebrating 25 Magical Years of Disney on Broadway” to raise money for those affected by the coronavirus. It will feature performances from a wide range of Disney Broadway musicals, including “The Lion King,” “Frozen” and “Hercules.”

The Disney/Broadway extravaganza will be hosted by Ryan McCartan (“Frozen”) from his family’s basement, and will feature live interviews.

The event will be free, but viewers will be encouraged to contribute to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund.

You can watch it here at or at

8 p.m. – At the Burke household, we’ll be watching the return of the Oneders.

The five primary cast members of the 1996 film, “That Thing You Do” – Tom Everett Scott, Jonathan Schaech, Ethan Embry, Steve Zahn and Liv Tyler – are taking part in a watch party tonight at 8 p.m. to raise money for MusiCares’ COVID-19 relief fund.

Here’s how it works: Put on your own copy (or one you stream, rent or otherwise gain access to) and head over to The Wonders’ YouTube channel. It’s there that the cast will host the livestream commentary as we all watch it together.

Cast members have also hinted at surprise guests during the stream. Obviously, we have no idea who it could be, but it was Tom Hanks’ directorial debut and Charlize Theron had a small role, so it could get interesting. Of course, “dancer No. 3” could also be the guest, but it won’t matter – we’re there for it.

The four band members recently got together to talk about their memories of shooting the film and to talk about tonight’s livestream.

8 p.m. – Star of “The Office” and “The Quiet Place” and “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” John Krasinski, the good news guy who has been keeping us all laughing and sane, is going to personally throw and DJ a virtual prom.

The at-home event will be hosted at Krasinski’s YouTube channel, here.

“That’s right class of 2020. I’m DJing your prom with some friends this Friday night 8EST/5PST!!” the star wrote on Instagram, teasing tonight’s (April 17) at-home event, being hosted via Krasinski’s YouTube channel, Some Good News. The Quiet Place actor even shared a throwback picture from his own prom day with the caption, “Can’t take it anymore how much you are all missing your prom.”

10 p.m. – Wind down this whirlwind of an evening by testing your knowledge of home-grown amusements. StoryLand has put together a quiz where you can revisit fond memories of warm summer days in Glen.

The great part is that even if you get a question wrong (I tanked the first few,) you’ll learn something new thanks to the trivia tidbits you get after each question.

Take the StoryLand quiz.
