Geology Rocks! An Introduction to Geology and Rock Climbing
Holderness, NH 03245
Join the SLA on April 20th from 10 am – 12:30 pm for a chance to explore the science of the earth: geology! Participants will be introduced to basic geological concepts and terminology, including the processes that form different rocks and how they are classified. We will also discuss how rocks are dated and how geologists identify them in the field. Following a short lecture and discussion, we will walk over to the Squam Lakes Association’s indoor rock-climbing wall which is located in the barn on campus. Although not truly made of rock, participants will have a chance to climb the wall while we revisit some of the information presented. The barn is not heated so participants are encouraged to dress in warm clothing and to bring an extra pair of dry shoes to climb in.
