Disney reveals Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening date
The highly-anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios theme park will open on August 29, Disney announced today.
The Disneyland Resort will open its Star Wars land even earlier – May 31. The company revealed the opening dates this morning at its annual shareholder’s meeting in St. Louis, Missouri.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will send guests to a galaxy far, far away (a 14 acre corner in the southwest portion of its Hollywood Studios theme park), and will include themed attractions, dining, merchandise, role-playing cast members, an incredibly detail-oriented environment and eventually a Star Wars-themed hotel.
The themed land will open in two phases. Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, which puts guests in the cockpit of the iconic ship, will welcome visitors on opening day. Phase two, opening later this year, will include the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction, which Disney calls “the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined.” It will place guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance and will blur the lines between fantasy and reality. In light of tremendous demand, Disney opted to open the land in phases to allow guests access sooner.
