Christmas in… March?

The cure for cabin fever: Fremont family shines light in challenging times

In yet another example of people giving one another a boost when it’s needed, one family in Fremont has broken out a seasonal favorite to lift spirits.Blogxmaslightspic

The Daly Family’s Festival of Lights – a jaw-dropping Christmas music and light display – was taken out of mothballs and fired up on Saturday night.

With one week of COVID-19-related quarantine down and an untold number of similar days ahead, the timing could not have been better.

From the family’s Facebook page: “We are happy to announce that we will be turning on our display today Saturday March 21st. The current situation has raised the stress and anxiety levels to the extreme for both the young and old. We and others in the Christmas light community have come together to offer everyone A ‘bright light’ in the darkness. Please enjoy our show from the safety of your vehicle and respect those around you who are there to smile, laugh, possibly shed a tear, DANCE and SING in their cars.”

If you go, put your radio on 88.5 to have the music piped-in through your car radio.

The display will remain up and the show will run Sundays through Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 7-9:30 p.m.

Before you head to the Daly’s high-tech spirit-booster, keep in mind: it’s a residential neighborhood. There are a few requests:

We kindly ask for the safety of all that you PLEASE REMAIN IN YOUR VEHICLE and keep your WINDOWS UP AT ALL TIMES! Everyone who will be viewing the lights needs to feel safe and secure just like you. To that end, If we notice anyone out of their vehicles we may shut the show down for that night.”

As word gets out about the display, crowds may develop. In that case, “If there is a crowd please leave to make room for others once you have listened to all of the songs and they begin to repeat. Because of more daylight, this is a shorter show than Christmas and we want all to have a chance to smile, even if it’s just for a little while.”

The family worked nonstop this week, hooking up lights and programming music. The show currently consists of three songs – not Christmas music – and there may be more added.

Finally, a note from the Daly family: “From our family to yours, be safe and be nice to those around you.”
