Top 10 events happening in February





One of our favorite events this month is the 15th annual ice harvest and winter carnival at the remick country doctor museum & farm in Tamworth on February 3.

 

February may be a short month on the calendar but it doesn't fall short when it comes to fun things to do with your family.

Here are the top 10 events happening in New Hampshire this month:

FEBRUARY 2-3: FARM AND FOREST EXPO IN MANCHESTER

2018 marks the 35th year for this great winter fair. The Expo features education workshops (everything from composting to farmers markets and maple production to solar power are covered), unique NH made products, a special Kidzone for the kids and some fuzzy and furry animals to meet.

FEBRUARY 3: ICE AND SNOW FESTIVAL IN KEENE

This year marks the 16th anniversary of the Keene Ice and Snow Festival, held at Central Square and Railroad Square in downtown Keene. This is a family-friendly winter carnival and festivities include snowball fights, ice sculpture competitions, crafts for kids, train rides and pictures with polar bears and ice princesses. This event is free to attend.

FEBRUARY 3: 15TH ANNUAL ICE HARVEST AND WINTER CARNIVAL IN TAMWORTH

This family-friendly event takes place on the grounds of the historic Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm in Tamworth. Visitors are invited to try their hands at the many steps of harvesting ice blocks from the property's pond, then watch as they are carted ​by oxen sled ​to the ice house for storage. Guests can enjoy wintertime festivities, outdoor activities and games, live music, a bob house display and farm animals in their winter setting.

FEBRUARY 10: COMEDIAN SETH MEYERS IN CONCORD

Seth Meyers is coming home to help Granite State kids. The host of NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” will be the Capitol Center for the Arts to perform two shows benefiting Court Appointed Special Advocates of New Hampshire and the Granite State Children’s Alliance, New Hampshire’s network of Child Advocacy Centers.

FEBRUARY 8-11: 102nd NEWPORT WINTER CARNIVAL

For four days, the small town of Newport, New Hampshire will be transformed into a winter wonderland landscape of outdoor fun, games and family-friendly activities. This year's highlights include: winter carnival parade, Axe Man Challenge, horse-drawn wagon rides, broom hockey and a sliding party.

FEBRUARY 10: T-REX TEA PARTY IN DOVER

Grab someone you love and head to the Children's Museum of NH in Dover for a special TEA-Rex Valentine's Day event. Kids will love decorating Valentine’s Day cookies, participating in some festive crafts, enjoying some tea or apple juice, and listen to dinosaur story books. Fancy, whimsical, or prehistoric attire is encouraged. Pre-registration is required for this event.

FEBRUARY 13: COOK UP A MARDI GRAS FEAST

A New Orleans-style Mardi Gras bash is perfect for chasing the winter blues away. This year, Mardi Gras falls on February 13, making this the perfect excuse to cook up some Cajun and Creole dishes for your sweethearts. And, because they don't call it Fat Tuesday for nothing, don't forget to whip up a delicious Bananas Foster.

FEBRUARY 16-17: LET'S GO ICE FISHING IN MANCHESTER

Head to Amoskeag Fishways and learn how to ice fish with staff and volunteers from New Hampshire Fish and Game. This two-part program is free but advanced registration is required. (Friday is all about ice safety, equipment and ecology and on Saturday there will be an organized fishing trip.)

FEBRUARY 24: 26TH ANNUAL WINTER CARNIVAL IN MERRIMACK

Families are invited to this free, fun-filled day put on by the Merrimack Parks and Recreation Department. Kids can enjoy outdoor activities, crafts, games, a youth fishing derby, cardboard sledding contest, ice carving demonstrations and campfire.
