GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION TO NEW HAMPSHIRE MAGAZINE

New Hampshire Magazine welcomes freelance submissions and queries. Our marketing calendar will give you an idea of the topics we feature. Stories typically run 300 to 2,000 words and we feature lifestyle, home, cuisine, adventures, personalities and other compelling topics of NH human interest. We purchase the right to take works created to appear in our magazine and reuse them online.

Feel free to send queries or manuscripts by e-mail. For regular queries, enclose an s.a.s.e. and give us a month or so to respond. We work at least a few months in advance and it’s usually best to submit seasonal stories a year in advance unless you already have suitable photography.

Fees for New Hampshire Magazine are determined by the scope and challenge of the work, e.g. story, photo assignment, illustration or creative project. Unless special arrangements have been made with the editor, works submitted after the deadline will not be accepted for publication. The editor reserves the right to edit works once they’re submitted, to use the work in a future issue instead of the one it was assigned for, and to “kill” a submission after its acceptance. A kill fee of 40% will be paid for completed works that were assigned by the editor but not used in New Hampshire Magazine.

Editorial fees will be paid net 30 days upon publication.

The content provider grants New Hampshire Magazine first-time serial publication rights to their assigned works and also grants the right to online use of those works and any unpublished materials created specifically for the assignment unless otherwise stipulated by the provider and agreed upon by New Hampshire Magazine. The content provider agrees not to allow the works to appear in other media that is distributed or viewed in New England until one year after publication in New Hampshire Magazine.
